School-based Assessment Design Workshop


When: 10th March (Sat)
Venue: North Sydney Girls High School (Classrooms -D1 and D2) at 365 Pacific Highway, Crows Nest 2065. Traveling by:
  • car: Gate 1 Car park (access from David Street, limited to 20 cars).
  • train: Get off at St Leonards Station. Walk approximately 10 minutes on Pacific Highway towards the city
  • bus from Blue Street, North Sydney Station: Bus 200, 252, 254, 261, 286, 287, 290, 291, 343 or M20. Get off at Mater Hospital bus stop at the corner of Pacific Highway and Rockland Road, Crows Nest.
Targeted teachers: Stage 6 Japanese Beginners and Continuers teachers at Proficient Teacher Level
Cost: JTAN member: $25.00
Non-JTAN member $50.00
Application and Payment due: 28th February 2018
NSW Education Standards Authority Completing this workshop contributes to 4 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 7.4.2 in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

10:00 - 12:00 Brain storming in groups, Designing assessment task/s
12:00 - 13:00 Lunch (provided)
13:00 - 14:30 Designing assessment task/s
14:30 - 15:00 Sharing the designed tasks (Each group explains about their designs)
15:00 - 15:15 Evaluation, Closing

Procedure: (Teachers, please bring your laptop computer and resources )

  1. Beginners and Continuers course teachers are divided into groups

  2. Brainstorm and design formal and informal school-based assessment tasks, not mirrored HSC style task. Each teacher to complete:
    1. A classroom activity/activities prior to the assessment
      • a classroom activity/activities to make students able to do the assessment task successfully.
    2. Assessment task
      • Actual question (with Topic/s, Syllabus outcomes)
      • Working time
      • Materials/Resources students may use to complete the task
    3. Marking Guidelines
      (Reference: Syllabus outcomes, Stage 6 Band Descriptor, HSC Marking Guidelines)
